How to Beat the Heat – Hot Weather Tips from BGE

Utility provider Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) has put out a reminder for customers on how to keep their homes cool during the height of summer. The heat prompts many customers to use a much greater amount of energy to cool their homes. BGE’s recommendations can help reduce energy usage by 20% or more without sacrificing on comfort:

• Manage your thermostat
• Check Air conditioner size and placement
• Use fans to circulate air
• Use appliances wisely
• Keep shades, blinds, and curtains closed
• Keep hot air out
• Replace your old appliances with ENERGY STAR energy-efficient models
• Replace inefficient lighting with CFLs or LEDs
