Job Description
Now accepting applications for an HVAC Estimator/Project Manager to perform in home energy assessments with the end goal of moving customers through the client cycle from the initial assessment to job completion. By combining detailed technical estimation with effective salesmanship, you'll educate customers about measures they can take to reduce their energy consumption and help them to make intelligent decisions about which projects to undertake to reach their energy and comfort goals. You will leverage your technical expertise to accurately diagnose a home's comfort needs, perform ACCA Manual J load calculations, and design optimal solutions that maximize electrification and load reduction (air sealing and insulation) opportunities. This hybrid role is ideal for someone with a strong technical foundation in HVAC systems who can accurately estimate HVAC project costs, and provide internal sales assistance. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing HVAC proposals, collecting home data, and creating accurate project estimates that drive homeowners to complete HVAC projects.
The HVAC Estimator/Project Manager will work closely with the Home Performance team. This position is based out of our Laurel office, with service areas in Baltimore City, Montgomery, Prince George’s, Howard and Baltimore Counties, and occasional work in Washington DC.
Responsibilities
Lead Management: Convert all company-provided, pre-qualified, and scheduled warm and hot leads by performing technical discovery appointments. You won't be responsible for generating your own leads.
Technical Diagnosis: Conduct on-site and remote assessments, strictly following established data collection protocols to correctly diagnose house performance and comfort issues.
Design & Estimation: Perform ACCA Manual J (Load Calculation) procedures, translating results into comprehensive project proposals and cost estimates that integrate electrification technologies (e.g., heat pumps) and load reduction measures.
Client Consultation & Sales: Educate homeowners on the benefits of HVAC system upgrades, energy efficiency, and indoor air quality solutions. Present tailored systems, skillfully negotiate, and efficiently close deals to meet sales targets.
Affordability Solutions: Effectively utilize and present flexible financing and promotional options to maximize project affordability for clients.
Project Collaboration: Work closely with installation and project management teams to ensure a seamless transition from sale to installation and a superior customer experience.
Requirements
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated success in HVAC project estimation and sales is required, with specific experience in performing energy audits, electrification assessments, and Manual J calculations.
Technical Knowledge: Strong foundational knowledge of construction principles and related estimating across HVAC, electrical, and building envelope systems (insulation and air sealing), and proven familiarity with product lines from major partners like CARRIER, FERGUSON, and LENNOX.
Certification (Preferred): Active BPI Building Analyst certification is highly preferred.
Sales Acumen: Proven experience in sales or customer service, with an exceptional ability to build client rapport and strong negotiation skills.
Tools: Familiarity with CRM platforms and HVAC load calculation software.
